HUNNIC TRIBES, Western Turks. Zabulistan. Spur Martan Shah, late 7th century. Drachm (Silver, 30 mm, 2.41 g, 10 h), Zabulistan, RY 35 = 625 (frozen date). Citing Vasudeva, the ruler of Zabulistan, on the reverse. Sasanian-style draped bust facing, wearing Khosrau II’s elaborate winged crown; to left, countermark: forepart of an unidentifiable animal to right; behind the countermark, ‘GDE ʾp̄zwt'’, i.e. ‘xwarrah abzūd’ (‘[may his] glory increase’ in Pahlavi); to right, ‘spwl hwtyp'’, i.e. ‘Spur xwadēw’ (‘King Spur’ in Pahlavi); in outer margin, running clockwise from 1 h, ‘[PWN ŠM Y yẕdt' spwl bg] hwtyp' whmʾnʾc mltʾn MLKA’, i.e. ‘pad nām ī yaz(a)d. Spur bay xwadēw. Wahmānāz Mardān šāh’ (‘In the name of God. Lord [and] King Spur. Wahmanaz Mardan Shah’ in Pahlavi). Rev. Bust of the goddess Anāhitā facing with nimbus of flames; to left, ‘śrī vasudevaḥ’ (‘His Highness Vasudeva’ in Brahmi script); to right, ‘[pnc sy] zʾwlstʾn’, i.e. ‘panj sī Zāwulistān’ (’35, Zabulistan’ in Pahlavi); in outer margin, illegible legend in Pahlavi.
